Story

My lovely friend Amy and I are walking 26 miles from Salisbury to Stonehenge for the Alzheimer’s Society. As many of you know this is a charity so close to my heart. My mum was diagnosed with Alzheimer's over 10 years ago and Dad not long after with Frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Mum is incredibly still with us but sadly we lost Dad at Christmas due to complications from the dementia.

The Alzheimer's society has particularly been so special to Mum and I. Over the years we have benefitted from an amazing support worker who became a real friend and still visits mum now. Jackie helped Mum be independent for longer. I benefited from a Dementia Awareness course and for a long time Mum thoroughly enjoyed her weekly session at Music for the Mind in Harnham, sometimes with Zac and I in tow. The work they do is amazing.

Alzheimer’s Society are working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. They do this by giving help to those living with dementia today and by providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding ground-breaking research.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and to help everyone affected by dementia.
