Story
On 24th May 2023, without there ever having been a hint that there might be something wrong, my darling husband, Wyn, died suddenly & unexpectedly, & lives were changed forever. He had suffered a massive heart attack. Mercifully perhaps, as he was alone when it happened, death would have been instantaneous, ‘ like flicking off a light switch. ‘
Grief & heartbreak, however, do not end as abruptly. Almost a year on from Wyn’s death, for his shocked & stunned family, even the writing of the words ‘Wyn’ & ‘death’ still seems breathtakingly incomprehensible.
The manner of his death, of course, is not unique. It’s happened before &, sadly, it’ll happen again & another family will be left, shattered.
On 1st May, in memory of Wyn & to help raise money for Heart Research UK, I’ll be starting the Cape Wrath Trail. This is an unofficial long distance walking route of some 230+ miles from Fort William to Cape Wrath, the most north westerly point of mainland Scotland. It has the reputation of being Britain's toughest long distance walk as it’s completely unmarked & passes through extremely wild & rugged terrain, far from services & facilities for much of the distance. Walkers need to be self-sufficient so, as I’ll be doing this alone, I’ll be carrying my home on my back ! I’ve been training hard but I’ve no idea how long it’ll take - I’m giving myself the whole month - or indeed whether I’ll even make it ! Better men than me have tried & failed ! The main thing is that I’ll give it my best shot !
If you knew Wyn, or in memory of somebody that you’ve lost due to heart disease, I’m unashamedly asking you to donate to Heart Research UK. Please. This charity strives to find new treatments & cures for heart diseases, & supports people across the UK to keep their hearts healthy.
Thank you, in advance, for your support. Please feel free to share this far & wide !
