Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I'm running the Hackney Half Marathon with my friend Amelia Burns (our first ever half marathon!) and fundraising for WeSwim, a charity who are increasing the opportunities for people with disabilities to swim in London. Their volunteer run clubs empower adults with disabilities to stay active, connect with others, and build lasting confidence.
I've been volunteering with WeSwim for the past year at Old Street and Barbican pools and have loved meeting new people in my community. It's a really supportive initiative and it's fantastic to see swimmers enjoying themselves, improving and returning regularly. I'm excited to run the Hackney Half and raise some money to ensure it can help even more swimmers.
WeSwim is a lifeline for people with disabilities who really struggle to get active through typical leisure provision. 1 in 6 Londoners has a disability and WeSwim have a waiting list of over 120 people. This year, they are planning to open more clubs to get more people with disabilities into the water. It costs £10,000 to run each club for 6 months.
