As my 60th birthday present to myself I decided to enter a middle distance triathlon which is 1.2 miles of swimming, 56 miles cycling and 13.1 miles of running.
Training for the event has been challenging with the amount of time required. In total we are 8 competitors. My sister-in-law Sam is also competing as an individual. Some family members have been volunteered (cajoled) into entering as 2 teams. Adam, Nick and Fergus as the NAF tritons team and Verity, Will and Elliot are the WEV tritons.
St Mary's Church, Llanvair Kilgeddin is a beautiful church in rural Monmouthshire which was deconsecrated in the early 1980s. It is now in the care of the Friends of Friendless Churches. Inside the scarfitto panels painted by Herbert Sumner over 3 summers in the 1880s are a source of historical interest. Passing the churchyard on my running and cycling training always gives me a lift as I appreciate its tranquillity and silently acknowledge those I knew who are buried there. It seems appropriate to raise money to help maintain this beautiful and important building and church yard.
