Story
We are raising money for the South Western Ambulance Service by taking part in the OUTRUN AN AMBULANCE challenge. Me and Maya will attempt to walk 64 miles (the average mileage covered per shift in somerset) before the end of 2026 with Maya in the pram or carrier.
Maya was dispatched an emergency ambulance via 111 when she suddenly became unwell with croup. I have no experience of croup and was unaware how serious it was with maya displaying 100% of the emergency red flag symptoms that can come with croup.
Even when the crew were with us, poor Maya kept deteriorating (she went from a moderate to severe case in front of us all despite initial treatment) and we were blue lighted into resus. Throughout all of this, the ambulance crew were able to keep me calm(ish), focused and together whilst continuing to help Mysy. I honestly dread to think how we would have got Maya to a hospital in one piece without them.
Our ambulance staff and volunteers really go the extra mile to be there for us when we need them the most. Please support me to go the extra mile for them by taking on the 'Outrun an Ambulance' challenge.
The South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) provides emergency and urgent care across 10,000 square miles, serving over 5.5 million residents and over 20 million visitors each year. SWASFT crews deal with around 2,500 incidents a day across the South West.
Your donations will be used to provide enhanced facilities and well-being support for crew and personnel operating from Ambulance Stations in Somerset and to equip volunteer Community First Responders.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT.
