This expedition is not just a personal journey. It's a collective endeavor, a shared commitment to remember and honour. As a team of 9, we trek in memory of dear friends and other family members we have lost far too soon. Their absence is a constant reminder of the fragility of life, and the urgency to act. And so, with each stride we carry, their spirits follow, weaving their legacy into each part of an incredible journey.

Dementia has affected my family personally. In 2006, we lost my lovely Grandma to Vascular Dementia, 2020 to my amazing Grandad, and my Auntie Irene in 2021…but in reality this cruel disease took them all well before then. To watch someone loose themselves and become a shell of who they are is truly heartbreaking and so this cause is one especially close to my heart. 

Dementia has been the leading cause of death in Britain over the last 10 years. There are over 900,000 people living with Dementia in Britain today and millions more caring for their loved ones. At the moment there is no cure, and although there are some medicines that can help for a while, this is not the answer we need. The more awareness that is raised around this awful disease and the more we can support these wonderful charities, we can hope that these numbers will go down and answers will be found.
