Story

I am taking part in the London Marathon 2026 with Team Whizz Kidz!

Back in 2021 I became physically disabled due to varying conditions that gradually worsened causing extremely unstable joints specifically involving my legs. This left me unable to walk for a long period of time, missing out on not only my education but vital years of my life. During these years I felt so isolated from the world as well as alone, I was living in a world that was completely unsuited for not only myself, but the millions of other wheelchair users and disabled people who are unable to navigate this world due to inadequate accessibility. Trying to live in a world that isn't designed for you is a very surreal and scary experience, I became very depressed after loosing my mobility, I gave up on my future and my dreams.

I felt as if no one understood me or how I felt after loosing my mobility until I managed to meet someone else just like me, this resulted in me meeting hundreds of other young wheelchair users across the UK and other Countries, it was lifechanging to finally meet others on the same wavelength as myself who truly understood the problems and troubles I was facing to such a high degree that no able bodied person could grasp. These friendships I made helped me in a way words cannot describe, bringing me such joy and happiness to be understood. Everyone was so accepting, supporting and understanding as we were all in very similar situations.

I discovered whizz kidz thanks to these close friendships I made with other wheelchair users who spoke very highly of the charity and I ended up attending one of their sports days and having the absolute time of my life being able to participate in sports again, something I wasn't able to do for a very long time.

Whizz kidz has not only helped me, but so many of my friends. Helping with funding vital pieces of equipment such as power attachments for active wheelchairs, active wheelchairs, wheelchair parts and other equipment that allows independence and freedom. Whizz kidz has helped to teach some of my friends crucial skills on how to navigate the world as a wheelchair user, giving them not only their confidence, but their independence back. The support and help Whizz kidz offers to their families also cannot go amiss.

I completely relearnt how to walk again all thanks to an amazing team of specialists, physios and my sheer determination to see if it was at all possible to get back on my feet again and as it turns out, all my hard work payed off in ways I cant begin to imagine. For the past 6 months I've been back on my feet, walking completely unaided! This experience has helped me to realise anything is possible so I decided to go into acting now that I'm in a much better place myself, something I wanted to do before I lost my mobility but lost direction for it when I became physically disabled, giving up on that dream. However now I've already been a supporting actor on film and will be attending drama school fulltime next year!

I want to use my abilities now I'm back on my feet again to be able to give back to Whizz kidz, a charity so close to my heart, by running 26.2 miles in the London marathon 2026! I'm running for all my friends who have helped me throughout the past 4 years navigating life differently and been by my side through thick and thin, as well as all the other young wheelchair users who are currently in a similar situation as I myself once was in, who rely on Whizz kidz for the lifechanging support and funding they provide to so many kids and youth, I hope to help give back and help this fantastic charity reach those that will benefit from the inspiring work they bring to young wheelchair users and their families all across the UK.
