Raising funds for Melanoma Research

Story

Fun loving adventurer, Shiona Ramage was 45 years old when she was first diagnosed with melanoma in June 2016. Since then she has been receiving treatment at The Royal Marsden for advanced melanoma.

Following her diagnosis, Shiona was inspired to make a difference to the lives of other people affected by cancer. She got to work recruiting her closest friends and family to fundraise for Melanoma research. Over four years, through taking on challenges such as a danceathon, skipathon, swimming Loch Lomond, running The Royal Parks Half Marathon, hiking the Welsh 3000's and many more, they have raised an incredible £130,000! But they have no intention of stopping there, with several more events in the pipeline and the latest fundraising target set to £140,000.

The Royal Marsden “deals with cancer every day so understands how valuable life is”. I started running when I turned 40 and the Angkor Wat Half was my first race. I’m back to do it again, older and stronger, as I end my 40s and enter a new decade. My sister, Jane, is coming to join me on this and has already started her contribution to fundraising for The Royal Marsden. It’s my turn to show my appreciation as to how valuable life is so I’m training hard to run hard at Angkor Wat and ask friends and family for their support for this great cause.

Shiona’s strength and determination to fight her own battle but to fundraise whislt she does this is truly inspirational. I’ve known Shiona since arriving in Hong Kong in 1999. I’m honoured to finally be able to do something for her great cause.
