Story
I am fundraising for Beat, the UK's eating disorder charity. Beat supports anyone with an eating disorder, their friends and family, as well as professionals working with or worried about an individual in their care.
I am walking the 3 Yorkshire Peaks (24.5 miles) on Saturday the 15th of July, raising money for Beat. Over 1.25 million people in the UK suffer from an eating disorder, This charity raises awareness, encourages people to reach out and offers support in all stages of recovery. Beat also provide a lot of helpful resources for family and friends as eating disorders have huge impacts on their lives too. It's through the work of charities like Beat, that the stigma around eating disorders will be reduced and people will hopefully speak up sooner and be able to access support.
My name is Lucy, a third year Medical Student and I have struggled with anorexia since I was 16, my eating disorder has not only affected my physical and mental health in many ways, it has also deprived me of so many good times over the last few years and I suppose, prevented me living my life to the fullest. I can now say that I am in recovery and am realising how much more enjoyable life is without an ED. Beat have helped me and my family a lot in my recovery and by giving a little bit back, it ensures Beat can continue supporting people when they need it most. This is even more important now because in some parts of the country people can wait months between a referral to the ED service and their initial appointment. I am very lucky to have had so much support and never felt alone in my recovery but unfortunately that is not the case for everyone and this is why helplines and online support groups are so important.
Thank you for taking the time to visit my page and any donations are so appreciated and really mean alot to me.
