We are a team of challengers from Penguin Random House UK, and we've signed up to take part in the Peak District Ultra Challenge 25km Bakewell Loop this year to raise money for the National Literacy Trust.

Without good levels of literacy, people are held back at every stage of their lives. They struggle at school and are locked out of the job market, and as parents they aren’t able to support their children. The National Literacy Trust aims to tackle this cycle of disadvantage by working with communities, schools and families to transform lives through literacy and empower people to get the most out of their lives.

£50 could help to train a volunteer to give parents with low literacy levels the confidence and skills to help develop their child’s literacy and communication skills.

£100 could help seven teenagers improve their literacy and communication skills through enabling them to participate in the National Literacy Trust's Words for Work programme, giving them the opportunity to engage with inspiring professionals, practise and develop their oracy skills and encourage them to think about their future aspirations.

£280 could inspire a class of children to read for pleasure through a 10-week motivational programme working with the Premier League.

£600 could enable the National Literacy Trust to recruit and train 10 business volunteers – enough to help a class of young people from disadvantaged communities to improve their communication skills, preparing them for employment.
