Manchester Marathon for Sam Ashcroft 💜

adidas Manchester Marathon 2025 · 27 April 2025 ·
From weekly house parties to many wasted free periods, Sam has been a huge part of my life for 12 years. For the last two years I'm lucky enough to have been able to call Sam not only my boyfriend and but also my absolute best friend. Whether it be sitting on facetime or going on holiday together, Sam filled every moment with so much hapiness and I will be forever grateful for every single memory that we shared. Sam truly was the most gentle, funny and kind person. Life is not the same without him and he is missed beyond words by everyone who knew him.
Devastatingly, Sam suddenly passed away in December 2023 due to an undiagnosed cardiac condition. Sam was always a talented runner and it’s fair to say he would not believe I would ever be attempting a marathon after declining every invite to join him on a run. However, on April 27th, i will be attempting Manchester Marathon in his memory for Cardiac Risk in The Young (CRY) - a charity that does key work to prevent such tragedies and supports affected families.

Every week in the UK at least 12 young people die of undiagnosed heart conditions. Since its formation in 1995, Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) has been working to reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death (YSCD). CRY supports young people diagnosed with potentially life-threatening cardiac conditions and offers bereavement support to families affected by YSCD. CRY promotes and develops heart screening programmes and funds medical research. CRY publishes and distributes medical information written by leading cardiologists for the general public.
