We all have favourite songs. Or a piece of music associated with a particular memory. And there’s growing evidence for music's beneficial effects.

Music for my Mind (registered charity number 1167246) was founded with the aim to improve the well-being of people living with memory loss and dementia, their family, friends and care-providers, by creating and making personalised music widely available, as an affordable social prescribing tool in dementia. We want to use research and technology to bring music to all families affected by dementia.

As most people who spend more than 10 minutes with me know (because I don't stop banging on about it) I work with the most fantastic charity, Music for My Mind, as a researcher, looking into the benefits of personalised music for people living with Dementia (PLWD). At work I'm able to see the incredible effects music has on PLWD and their families.

I've seen first hand that music isn't just a nice optional extra to have in Dementia care, it is a crucial tool, helping to bring calm in the more difficult moments, making the carers' jobs easier and giving families a much needed source of connection.

I'll be walking over 100km with my long suffering mates, Katie and Rhian, from London to Brighton for my incredible Grandma, Margaret, who we miss every day, for Sam's lovely Grandad, Terry who is living with Dementia and for all of the amazing people I get to work with every day along with their families and carers.
