Leeds Paraclimbing Club is an inclusive climbing charity that helps people with disabilities and mental health conditions access the benefits of climbing. I set the club up in 2021 after realising their were a lack of opportunities for disabled people in the climbing industry and lots of barriers in place to stop people participating in the sport.
I started climbing in 2021 after two friends who are both climbing instructors took me climbing during a holiday to Australia. Before the trip, I had only just been discharged from a 2 month stay in hospital. I have a progressive neuromuscular disease which impacts my mobility making me a wheelchair user. Spending so long in hospital really impacted my physically and mentally health.Taking up climbing helped my health drastically improve and has stopped my body deteriorating as quickly as doctors thought. I started training regularly at the Big Depot Climbing Centre in Leeds. 4 Years later, I am two times national champion in my category and represent Great Britain as part of the GB Paraclimbing Team.
I am raising money by taking part the biggest mountain bike event in the UK, the Dirty River on the 20th April 2024. I will be riding 65kms on an adaptive hand cycle and aiming to finish in under 5 hours. The route is extremely hilly and very technical around Kielder and Work Forest.
All the money raised goes towards getting more people climbing!
Running a charity is expensive and the club desperately needs help covering its running costs.
£5 covers the costs of equipment hire for a disabled person.
£50 buys a pair of climbing shoes.
£70 pays for a 2 hour session with a specialist instructor.
£300 covers the cost of an outdoor trip.
Please donate what you can :)
