Hi my name is Lucy! I have decided to compete in the Beverley Half Marathon to raise money for the PDSA! This is a charity for pets in need and they help provide veterinary care at a more affordable price for those who may not be in the position to pay private veterinary prices.

Recently, I found out I qualify for the service and was looking into treatment for my own dog Lola after she suffered an issue with her leg.

The PDSA were absolutely brilliant with Lola. They prescribed her medication and even carried out a health check that we were already due to have done at our private vets without us even asking, which saved a lot of money. They also authorised us to buy her annual flea prevention tablet at a fraction of the normal price.

Since being made redundant from my job in February, this support has genuinely meant so much to me and really showed how important charities like the PDSA are for so many families.

A lot of pet owners are unfortunately in a position where they cannot afford to pay private prices and the brilliant care provided at the PDSA is honestly a lifeline. Those who have owned a pet know how much love you develop for them and you care for them like a family member.

Without charities like the PDSA, many families would face the heartbreaking reality of not being able to get their pets the help they need. Every donation, no matter how small, can genuinely make a difference to an animal’s life and help keep beloved pets healthy and happy.

Running a half marathon is going to be a huge challenge for me but knowing it’s for such an important cause will keep me going every step of the way.
