Nacoa's Biggest Ever Walk in Sussex · 23 March 2024 ·

1 in 5 children in the UK are affected by their parents' alcohol problems. They are often frightened and isolated, with no one to turn to for help. Nacoa responds by providing a free, confidential telephone, 1-2-1 chat and email helpline.

Story

In September 2022 my partner Daniel peek father to Isaac and Amelie Peek died from liver cirrhosis age 41. Daniel was alcoholic, unfortunately alcoholism effects the whole family. Starting with the closest and rippling out to other members then friends.

Daniel was a good father, he loved his children so much, he was a good friend he cared about people. He was a good teacher at work. He achieved a lot in his life cut short by alcohol.

Underneath Daniel was Dan (the alcoholic) controlling his every thought and every move. He tried to fight this addiction so many times. In the end the alcohol won to some extent. It took everything and left with him.

There is so so much I could write to explain what happened. A life time of ups and downs. In the end Daniel gave his heart and kidney to save 3 other people.

He asked me to help the children of alcoholics including his own. He wanted people to understand more and be kinder. We found NACOA 2 months before Daniel died. I wish we had found NACOA 20 years earlier.

I am very grateful to all of the NACOA team for supporting us through the bereavement and for the understanding.

In Daniel's memory we raised money to support the one in 5 affected by an alcoholic parent.

Please help us to continue to help these children.

Isaac, Amelie and Amelie's friends Ruby will be walking 5 miles on 23rd March.

100s will join Calum Best and stars for Nacoa’s Biggest Ever Walk at Seven Sisters Cliffs.

Support our call to help vulnerable children and break the cycle of addiction.
