Hiking isn't my usual pass time but I'm proud to be raising money for a charity that helps nurses, healthcare assistants and support workers. The backbone and irreplaceable people in every care team I have ever been supported by or worked alongside.

I'm doing this for:

- the palliative care nurses who cared for my dad

- the cancer specialists who nursed my mum

- the HCA that persuaded my petrified 3-year-old that surgery would be worth a chocolate ice cream

- the midwives who delivered my babies

- the ICU team who brought me back from sepsis

- the amazing nurses I see every day in my job and wish I'd have known 27 years ago before my brother ended his life.

We all have a story.

Nurses have their own but never show it when they're delivering the most professional and compassionate care.
