#TeamBones are taking on the Royal Parks Half Marathon!
🏃♀️🏃♂️🏃♀️
On 11th October, Lucy, Jamie and Rebecca will be running the Royal Parks Half Marathon for the Bone Cancer Research Trust, marking the charity’s 20th anniversary and helping to create their biggest team ever! 🧡
This is a charity that is incredibly close to our hearts after Immy our incredible daughter was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma in early 2024 at the age of 19.
Bone cancer is a rare and aggressive cancer that predominantly affects children, teenagers and young adults. Too often, patients face misdiagnosis or late diagnosis, meaning precious time can be lost and survival rates remain far lower than other more common cancers.
And the treatment is brutal.
Chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy can leave patients facing severe side effects and long-term consequences that can affect their health and quality of life for years — sometimes for the rest of their lives.
The heart breaking reality is that there are still far too few new treatment options, and progress in bone cancer research has been painfully slow compared with many other cancers.
Thankfully, Immy remains in remission, but she has needed further surgery and continues to live with the impact of her diagnosis every single day. Sadly, far too many patients reach the end of the current treatment options with nowhere else to turn.
That is why the Bone Cancer Research Trust is so important.
They are dedicated to saving lives and improving outcomes for people affected by primary bone cancer. Despite being a relatively small charity, they fund more research projects into primary bone cancer than any other organisation.
Bone cancer remains hugely underfunded. In 2019, just 0.028% of research spending by large UK cancer charities went towards bone cancer — not even close to 1%.
Yet last year alone, the Bone Cancer Research Trust committed an incredible £807,824 to pioneering bone cancer research — research that could ultimately mean earlier diagnosis, better treatments, fewer long-term consequences and, most importantly, more lives saved.
So on 11th October, we’ll be running for every family affected by bone cancer, for those still fighting, for those living with the consequences of treatment, and for those families who have lost someone they love.
Please help us make every mile count. 🧡🦴
Any donation, however big or small, will help fund vital research and give future patients more options and more hope.
Thank you so much.
