Story
Dentaid The Dental Charity provides dental care and oral health advice for people experiencing homelessness, harm, poverty and abuse. They help people at risk of health inequalities who’ve been living with the misery of toothache and restore their self-esteem by giving them confidence in their smile.
As some of you may know I’m a dental nurse, with over 12 years of experience at Vergam Dental Practice. Next September, I have been given an amazing opportunity to travel to Uganda to undertake some voluntary work with this amazing charity. We will be providing vital dental care and oral health education to communities with limited access to resources.
After over a decade in dentistry, I’m ready to use my experience in a new way, one that makes a direct and lasting impact on people’s lives. I am genuinely so excited and grateful to have been given this opportunity to contribute to such an important cause, and to grow both personally and professionally through this experience.
With Dental Aid, I will be part of a dedicated team delivering:
· Pain relief and emergency dental treatments
· Preventative care and oral hygiene advice
· Community outreach and school-based dental education
Dental health is often taken for granted, but for many people in Uganda, untreated dental pain and infection are a daily reality. In many parts of Uganda, dental care is simply out of reach. Uganda has just 416 dentists for a population of over 46 million people, resulting in a dentist-to-patient ratio of 1:110,350, far below the World Health Organisation's recommendation of 1:7,500.
This is a self-funded trip, and I’m raising money to help cover:
· Travel and accommodation
· Dental instruments and medical supplies
· Educational materials for outreach programs
Every donation, no matter how small will help make this journey possible for me. If you're not able to donate, simply sharing this page would mean so much to me!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support 💛
