Spring into fitness with Tommy's 8,000 Steps a Day in March challenge. By stepping up you can support Tommy's, the UK's leading pregnancy and baby charity, to end the heartbreak of baby loss and make pregnancy safe - for everyone.

Story

There are moments in life that quietly divide everything into before and after.

For me, those moments came with two pregnancies that didn’t end the way they should have — my miscarriage in 2020, and more recently, my ectopic pregnancy which I very nearly died from due the pregnancy rupturing.

Both experiences stopped me in my tracks. They brought fear, grief and a kind of heartbreak that’s hard to put into words — the loss of plans, of hopes, and of a future you had already started to imagine. I’ve chosen to be open about these experiences because silence can often make loss feel even lonelier and if sharing my story helps even one person feel less alone, then it matters.

I want to take the trauma and pain I’ve been through, especially over the last few weeks and use it for something meaningful — to raise awareness and help create change for families facing pregnancy and baby loss.

Because the truth is, this happens far more often than many people realise.

In the UK:

• Around 1 in 6 pregnancies ends in miscarriage.

• Nearly 12,000 women experience an ectopic pregnancy every year, a condition that can be life-threatening.

• About 1 in 250 pregnancies ends in stillbirth, meaning around 8 families every day lose a baby.

• More than 48,000 babies are born prematurely each year, affecting around 8% of pregnancies.

And perhaps most telling of all — 1 in 2 adults in the UK say they, or someone they know, have experienced pregnancy or baby loss.

These are not just statistics. They represent parents navigating unimaginable grief, families searching for answers, and babies who should have had the chance to come home.

That’s why I’m taking part in 8,000 Steps a Day this March to support Tommy’s, a charity funding vital research into miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth. Their work focuses on understanding why these losses happen, improving treatments, and ultimately saving babies’ lives while supporting families through the hardest moments imaginable.

If you’re able to donate — whatever you can afford — you will be helping fund research that could prevent future heartbreak and make pregnancy and birth safer for everyone.

Every step I take is for the babies we carry, the babies we lost, and the families who deserve answers, support and hope.

Let’s make every step count ❤️
