Story
On the 16th of May a group of us will be walking 17 miles across the London football terraces in memory of beautiful Zach. Our route takes us from Tottenham Hotspur, past Arsenal, Chelsea, and Brentford, and finishes at Fulham, the club Zach loved so deeply and where he proudly held a season ticket.
Zach spent three years bravely fighting a very rare form of Leukemia. During that time he endured grueling treatment, including two bone marrow transplants and numerous rounds of chemotherapy. He also developed cord colitis, which meant he was unable to eat or drink for nearly a year and relied on his Hickman line through which he received vital nutrition and fluids, both at home and in hospital.
When his journey meant palliative care, Zach and his family were transferred to Helen & Douglas House – first supported at home by their incredible outreach Team, and later, in Zach's final days, at the hospice in Oxford.
Helen & Douglas House is not just about endings, it is about helping families live fully, bravely, and tenderly in every moment that matters.
Zach's family, my dearest friends, are deeply grateful for the love and care they received and continue to receive from Helen Douglas House. By fundraising for them we want not only to honour Zach's memory but to ensure that other families can experience the same compassion, support, and dignity through their own unimaginable journeys.
💛How Your Donation Helps
Every donation, no matter the size, makes a real and immediate difference to the children and families supported by Helen & Douglas House.
£32 could fund one hour with an outreach nurse specialist nurse in a child's home.
£220 could fund a four hour session with one of our Pediatric Doctors, helping a terminally ill child with symptom management and pain control.
£830 could fund the cost of one care team member for one week.
Thank you for taking the time to read 💙
