A specialist further education college, the Royal National College for the Blind provides academic & vocational education as well as independent living skills training for young people who are visually impaired. We support them into higher education, work and volunteering in their own communities.

Story

Phil (known by some of you as Dixie) worked at the Royal National College for over 20 years and he loved what he was doing.

His roles included Activities Coordinator, Student Support Workers' Coordinator, Lead Residential Support Officer, Teacher and Assessor at the Sports Department, Coach, Referee at the Sports Academy.

Students loved and respected him, and he always treated them with respect too. His sense of humour was second to none and he always was taking mickey of people but no one ever minded it as they knew that it came from the right place. Students and staff could always rely on Dixie. Sport tournaments, Duke of Edinburgh expeditions or simple days out at Alton Towers were always great fun for all involved. He will be so missed by all students, staff and volunteers - he was and always will be a Legend!

Phil/Dixie's cremation and celebration of life will take place on Friday, 3rd November at 11.15am at Hereford Crematorium (Westfaling St, Hereford HR4 0JE) followed by a celebration of his life at (thePoint4, Royal National College for the Blind, Venns Lane, Hereford, HR1 1DT - parking is free).

There will be refreshments and a bar at the college.

Rather than floral tributes, there will be a cash donation at the crematorium for the Royal National College for the Blind or you can give donation via this JustGiving page.

On the day, we would appreciate your condolences but would also welcome a happy memory of Phil. Please share your memories on this page too.

Rather than traditional mourning clothes, we think Phil would have enjoyed some colour for this celebration of his life. The dress code is smart casual.

Thank you for celebrating Phil/Dixie's life with us. And thank you for your donation that will support this amazing college to help students with visual impairment to gain independence and succeed in life.

Thank you,

Phil/Dixie's family and friends
