Story
In mid-September, I will be heading to the Himalayas to take on one of the most demanding trekking challenges in the world: The Three High Passes Trek.
This journey is not just a walk to Base Camp. It is a grueling expedition across three of the highest navigable passes in the Everest region: Renjo La (5,360m), Cho La (5,420m), and Kongma La (5,535m).
Why am I doing this?
I am pushing my physical and mental limits to support Macmillan Cancer Support. In our community in Inverness and across the Highlands, Macmillan is a lifeline. From the incredible nurses at Raigmore Hospital to the financial and emotional support they provide to families facing a cancer diagnosis, their work is indispensable.
The Symbolism of the Three Passes:
To me, this trek mirrors the journey many face when dealing with cancer:
The first pass represents the shock of diagnosis and the start of the climb.
The second pass is the grueling reality of treatment – the hardest part of the journey.
The third pass represents the summit and the hope of recovery and life beyond cancer.
At altitudes where every breath is a struggle, I will be thinking of those who are fighting for their health every single day.
