Story
At 3am on 20th June 2026, I’ll be striding out on the Jersey coast path to tackle the 77km Around the Island Walk.
Having previously taken part and completed this challenge in 2011, I’m delighted to be doing so again 15 years on in support of the Karuri School Project, a charity that I have volunteered for, fundraised for, and now represent as a Trustee.
To mark the 15 years since last going around the island, I’m going to attempt to complete the walk in 15 hours and aim to raise fifteen hundred pounds for Karuri. This sum of money will ensure the funding of replacement cooking stoves at the school.
So, can I please ask for your support? Will you be your ever so kind self and sponsor me to go around the island? Your donation will support all the children at the Karuri Schoo, Kenya.
To remind those who have supported before, and to let those who don’t know, the Karuri School Project Trust is a registered charity founded in Northampton in 2012 that has built and continues to maintain a residential primary school in rural Kenya for vulnerable and orphaned children.
The school is named after the Sacred Heart Church in Weston Favell, which has helped the founder of the school Wangari Karuri (who lived and worked in Northampton) through the project’s lifetime to raise funds for buildings, materials, and even livestock. You can find out more about the school and progress made here.
Hundreds of pupils have been helped by Wangari and the school, with many now attending Universities and training to become professionals.
To continue helping the ever-growing number of pupils, the pressing need currently is to complete the funding of replacement cooking stoves at the school. This fundraiser will ensure this funding is in place.
Your support means so much – thank you in advance.
Onwards,
Luke
