Story
As many people know, I was incredibly lucky to have Ellie as one of my flatmates at university. From the moment we met Ellie, she brought energy, laughter and a huge smile that could light up any room. She had an amazing ability to make everyone around her laugh, and her kindness and warmth made a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
Ellie lived with epilepsy, but it never defined her. Her strength of character was incredible — she threw herself into everything and refused to let it limit the life she wanted to live. She faced it with bravery, determination and a positivity that inspired the people around her.
Tragically, our paths only crossed for five months. On 9th February 2010, we lost Ellie far too soon. Even in that short time, her personality and spirit left a mark that none of us will ever forget.
For the past 14 years I’ve entered the London Marathon ballot, hoping to run it in Ellie’s memory. After four knee operations and a wardrobe full of London Marathon rejection tops, it’s probably time to admit defeat and take on a different challenge — and escape London while I’m at it.
This May, Chris and I will be cycling from London to Paris to raise money for SUDEP in Ellie’s memory, helping other families going through the same heartbreak.
Now, I’ll be honest — I’m not much of a cyclist, and I definitely don’t have the body for Lycra! But if enduring the miles, and the questionable cycling outfits helps raise money for such an important cause, then it’s more than worth it.
If you’re able to donate — no matter how small — it would mean a huge amount. Every contribution will help support an incredible cause and honour the memory of someone who meant so much to so many.
Thank you for helping us remember Ellie. ❤️
