Mind over Miles - Liverpool to the Lakes

Luke Hodgson is raising money for Alzheimer's Society
In memory of John Ridley

200km - 5 Days - Liverpool to Brampton · 4 August 2025

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

In August 2025 I will be attempting to run from Liverpool to Brampton (Lake District) in 5 days. The distance totals over 200km and over 2,100m elevation and will be the hardest physical and mental challenge I’ve ever undertaken. Brampton has been the home of my Nana and Granda for most of their lives and so it’s only fitting to return there, to the place with the most memories for this challenge.

Last year we lost our granda after a tough few years slowly deteriorating with Alzheimer’s and double dementia and it was impossibly hard to see the disease take over first hand. He was always an incredibly strong man and seeing his personality change so much was incredibly strange and tough, especially for my Nana who was taking care of him.

The Alzheimer’s Society have been incredible with the support they have provided, especially for my nana, and the work they do in researching causes, care and the prevention of dementia are so so important.

My reason for this challenge is solely to raise as much money as I possibly can for the Alzheimer’s society to help fund all of the incredible work that the charity does.

The Legs will be as follows:

Day 1 - Liverpool to Preston

Day 2 - Preston to Lancaster

Day 3 - Lancaster to Kendal

Day 4 - Kendal to Penrith

Day 5 - Penrith to Brampton

Any donations would be hugely appreciated, no matter how small ♥️
