Story
Luke and Sam are walking the Yorkshire 3 Peaks. Yes, all 24 miles of them in a day!
Why you might ask are two overweight men attempting this? Especially given one has high blood pressure and childhood PTSD of long-distance walking, whilst the other struggles with going down hills.
Well the answer is this photo. Luke's favourite of his Grandpop (walking in the Lakes with his dad and brother) who died last July after a battle with dementia. At the same time Luke had to stop training for his first half marathon which was meant to coincide with his 40th birthday due to some minor health issues of his own (see high blood pressure above). Thus, this new challenge was born and Sam was roped in for moral support.
Luke's Grandpop was an inspiring man who did so much to help others. The last year of his life was incredibly hard but we want to do something to remember the good times and a man who worked hard for his family and community. Therefore, raising money for a local charity who supports those impacted by dementia is our way of honouring his legacy.
We've been upping the distance considerably on our regular dog walks on the moors in recent months (with Sam completing his first Wainwright during training!). Who knows if we are prepared enough but any donations received are really appreciated and will add extra motivation as we struggle up and down Yorkshire's biggest hills.
