Story

Walking Hunter’s Journey – In Loving Memory of Our Son

I am walking my late baby son Hunter’s journey and raising money for Heart Link Children’s Charity in his memory. We welcomed our beautiful little boy Hunter on 20/11/2025, and five days later, on 25/11/2025, he passed away.

Hunter was born with a congenital heart condition called Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA). In a healthy heart, the pulmonary artery carries oxygen-poor blood from the heart to the lungs, and the aorta carries oxygen-rich blood from the heart to the rest of the body. In TGA, these arteries are reversed, meaning oxygen-poor blood is sent around the body and oxygen-rich blood is sent back to the lungs. Without intervention, the body does not receive the oxygen it needs.

We were not aware that Hunter had TGA during pregnancy. A few hours after he was born, he became critically unwell due to the lack of oxygen. He went a prolonged period without sufficient oxygen, which caused severe damage to his brain and other organs.

Despite this, Hunter fought so hard. He showed us just how strong he was from the very beginning.

Once transferred to Leicester Royal Infirmary, Hunter underwent a balloon atrial septostomy, a procedure to create or enlarge a hole between the chambers of his heart to allow oxygen-rich and oxygen-poor blood to mix, helping more oxygen reach his body. His organs began to show signs of improvement, but sadly he then started to have seizures.

Following ultrasound scans and an MRI, we were told that Hunter had suffered severe brain damage and a brain bleed. Even through everything, Hunter continued to show a strength and fight that amazed us every single moment of his short life.

Hunter is now at peace and free from pain.

We love you forever, Hunter. Shine bright 💫

Why We’re Fundraising

While Hunter was cared for in the Cardiac PICU at Leicester Royal Infirmary, we were supported by Heart Link Children’s Charity. Their support meant so much to us during the most difficult time of our lives.

Heart Link helps fund vital facilities for families, including parent lounges, playrooms, and parent bedrooms — spaces that bring comfort and support when families need it most. In honour of Hunter, we want to give back and help support other families facing similar journeys.

You can find out more about the incredible work they do here:
