Earlier this year I started to learn BSL from a fantastic teacher called John, a Deaf BSL instructor from the south west with a WICKED chess game.

I don't have lots of experience with deafness immediately, and John very kindly taught myself and our class about Deaf history and culture alongside our BSL lessons. He also personally taught me about how to play against the Caro Kann with black and to kick ass with the London system with white. If you know you know!

We've had lots of discussions about inclusivity, Deaf representation and socials to celebrate Deafness and I'm super grateful for all of the charitable education Deaf folk and advocates have extended my way. Here's to paying forward.

I'm taking on Step Up for RNID this May to support the 12 million people in the UK who are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus. 💚 Deaf people and people with hearing loss or tinnitus face barriers in almost every part of daily life. By joining Step Up For RNID, I’ll be helping to create the changes we need to see in the world. I'm helping to break down these barriers to make for a more inclusive society, connect people to advice and support, and pioneer new treatments for hearing loss and tinnitus.
