On 15 May 2025, our world was turned upside down when our beautiful daughter, Summer, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D).

Before that day, we had no idea of the challenges this disease brings. T1D is an autoimmune condition where the immune system attacks the pancreas, destroying the cells that produce insulin—a hormone essential for life. There is currently no cure.

Now, every single day, Summer must have insulin before she eats to prevent dangerous spikes in blood sugar. At the same time, we have to watch carefully for blood sugars dropping too low, which can also be life-threatening. It’s an exhausting and relentless balancing act.

Despite this, Summer has shown incredible bravery. She faces the reality of T1D with a smile that inspires us every day.

I made her a promise: I will do everything I can to help find a cure. I want her to see that her dad will take on the hardest challenges to show her that anything is possible.

So, in 2026, I’ll be running the Isle of Wight Ultra Challenge—a course that’s longer and hillier than anything I’ve ever done before. This will push me to my absolute limits, but I’m doing it for Summer and for every child living with T1D.
