Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit this JustGiving page.

On Friday, 16th October 2026, our world changed forever when we unexpectedly lost our much-loved husband, dad & grandad, following a cardiac arrest. His death has left us absolutely devastated, and we are still coming to terms with the loss of someone who was and will always be a huge part of our worlds.

A cardiac arrest is different to a heart attack, in that it occurs when the heart suddenly stops pumping blood around the body, depriving the brain of oxygen. It can happen to anybody, at any time. Tragically, in Dad’s case, the damage was irreversible, and he could not be saved. According to the British Heart Foundation, only around one in ten people survive a cardiac arrest. It is a heartbreaking statistic, and one that has become all too real for our family.

In the midst of our grief, we have been thinking about how we can do something positive in Dad’s memory — something that reflects the person he was and, hopefully, gives another family the chance to keep their loved one.

Our goal is to raise funds for a defibrillator to be installed at a bus stop along the Luton and Dunstable Busway, in partnership with the charity London Hearts. We hope that a commemorative plaque can be placed alongside it in Dad’s name, creating a lasting tribute to his life and legacy.

Dad had a long and varied career, beginning his working life as a plant mechanic before progressing through the transport industry into leadership roles. For the final 15 years of his career, he worked as a Project Manager for Luton Borough Council, overseeing several major projects, most notably the Luton and Dunstable Busway.

He was incredibly knowledgeable and took great pride in what he did. But what made him special was not simply what he knew — it was his willingness to share that knowledge with others. He was always supportive of people starting out in their careers, taking them under his wing, teaching them, building their confidence and helping them develop.

The Busway was a significant part of Dad’s professional life, and it feels particularly fitting that we should try to create something there in his memory. Somewhere connected to a project he dedicated so much of his career to, we hope to leave behind something that could one day make the difference to between life and death.

No family should have to experience the sudden loss of someone they love in this way. We know that a defibrillator cannot guarantee survival, but early CPR and access to a defibrillator can significantly improve someone's chances of surviving a cardiac arrest.

If raising these funds means that a person suffering a cardiac arrest has access to a defibrillator when every second matters, then perhaps another family might be spared the heartbreak we are experiencing.

That is what we hope to achieve. Something good coming from something unimaginably painful.

We are at the early stages of contacting Luton Borough Council to establish how and where a defibrillator could be installed along the Busway, with the support of London Hearts. While we work through the practicalities, we would be so grateful for any donation, however big or small, to help us turn this hope into reality.

If we raise more than is needed for the defibrillator and its installation, we will look at how the additional funds can best support this life-saving cause.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for taking the time to read Dad’s story and for considering making a donation. If you are unable to donate, sharing this page would mean just as much to us.

We miss Dad more than words can ever express. We cannot change what happened to him, but we hope that, in his name, we can help give someone else a chance.

Forever loved. Forever missed. And always remembered.

With love and heartfelt thanks,

Anne, Nicola, & Natalie

His wife, & daughters ❤️
