Story
We are the LWC canoe squad and we're taking on the challenge of the 118 mile canoe marathon over the Easter bank holiday. We've been training over the past year in all weathers building up our strength and stamina for what is often referred to as the "Canoeists Everest". The race takes place over 4 days, day one: 34 miles, day two: 36 miles, day three: 38 miles and the last day 10 miles on the tideway, and over 70 portages running with the boat. We camp overnight and cook for ourselves and the whole experience is a great test of resilience, teamwork, stamina and skill. It's incredibly rewarding but we also want to make a difference to the environment that we've been lucky enough to use.
Surfers Against Sewage is a marine conservation charity working with communities to protect oceans, waves, beaches and marine life. It was created in 1990 by a group of Cornish surfers and they fight to end sewage spills, plastic waste, and environmental destruction. It’s a relevant charity for us as we constantly see just how polluted the waters are around us and everyone should be aware of the negative impacts on wildlife that water pollution has.
Any donations large or small would be very much appreciated!
