Since finding out at the 20 week scan that our daughter had a Congenital heart defect our lives have been a rollercoaster of emotions and full of unknowns but from the moment we stepped into the Evelina hospital we knew that Evie was in the best possible hands. The care and compassion shown towards us as a family and to our daughter has been second to none and they have enabled us to spend 3 amazing months at home with our daughter that we never thought possible.  Sky ward looked after our daughter for the first 5 weeks of her life and made sure she had all the cuddles and care she needed when we couldn’t be there.

On the 25th of November Evie went into cardiac arrest, all the team went above and beyond to get her heart beating again but unfortunately she had gone too long without oxygen and her organs had been damaged beyond repair. On the 27th of November we had to make the difficult decision to take our beautiful baby off life support. The staff in PICU did everything they could to make sure that we got to say goodbye in the most peaceful way and the work that they did that day will never be forgotten. 

We never understood how there could be a good death or a bad death, surely they are all bad? But the Evelina hospital staff made sure that not only did she have a fantastic life full of happiness but they also prevented what would have been a bad death on the Saturday to a good death on the Monday. We will always be thankful to the staff and hospital for giving us time with our baby, and we can never put into words how much this has helped with this grieving process.
