Story

Hi everyone!

Me and Norah are going to do 31 miles in October together to try and raise some money for the strep B charity. I’m going to take her out every day and go for long walks (I have super dodgey hips!) but would other wise try and run! I have always found taking Norah out quite difficult as I have suffered with postpartum anxiety after a super tough start to our year, but we’re going to get out there and go for it! :)

Norah was born on the 08th January 2026 and is almost 8 months old. When she was born she had some struggles and we found out she had Strep B ( Strep B, or Group B Streptococcus (GBS), is a common, usually harmless type of bacteria that naturally lives in the digestive tract and lower genital area.) It can occasionally pass to a baby during labor and childbirth, leading to severe newborn illnesses like sepsis, pneumonia, or meningitis.

The charity raises money and tries to make family’s aware by emails and posters and leaflets in midwife’s rooms and in hospitals etc. The NHS currently don’t do screenings for this so we had no idea it even existed. A test that you would get after 35 weeks of pregnancy would show if you carried it and you would then take antibiotics to prevent the baby from catching it during child birth. It’s something the mother carries without any knowledge or signs of it at all.

We were extremely lucky with our little Norah, she had a hospital stay in Wishaw and then was blue lighted to Glasgow children’s hospital and then back to Wishaw to recover. She was put in an induced coma and had to be fed through a tube and it was the most heartbreaking thing we have ever gone through.

With more knowledge of Strep B, this could have been easily prevented.

Norah is now doing amazing, she’s up climbing on everything and crawling everywhere!! she is the happiest little soul and we love her so much!! 🤩

If you can donate to this charity it would mean the world to me! To prevent this happening to even one family would be amazing.

Thanks and lots of love!

Group B Strep is the leading cause of severe infection in newborn babies including sepsis, meningitis and pneumonia.

On average in the UK, at least two babies a day develop a group B Strep infection. One baby a week dies from their GBS infection, and another survives with long-term disabilities, physical, mental or both.

Group B Strep Support is on a mission to STOP life-threatening group B Strep infection in babies.

We provide support for families, improves awareness, educates health professionals and campaigns for better prevention.
