Story
Next summer I'm swimming the 6km Bantham Swoosh in South Devon, one of the UK's most iconic open water events. The route follows the stunning Aune Estuary and is timed to follow the receding tide. At its peak the tide will carry me at four times my normal speed. It's an unforgettable but demanding event.
I have not a naturally sporty person and have never done anything like this. It is several times further than my longest swim to date so more than a little daunting. But it seems appropriate to start my fifth decade with a challenge to share my love of swimming with others.
I'm swimming for Level Water, a charity that funds one-to-one swimming lessons for children with disabilities. 36% of disabled children are isolated from physical activity, and for many, swimming is transformative. Last year alone, Level Water funded 50,000 adapted lessons across the UK.
Just £15 funds a lesson. Your donation helps a child gain the confidence, independence and life skill that many of us take for granted.
If you can sponsor me, I'd be hugely grateful, thank you.
