WHAT IS THE LONDON YOUTH GAMES AND LYG33?

The London Youth Games (LYG) is Europe’s largest youth multi-sports competition and LYG33 (named after the 33 London borough councils) is its Youth Voice Activation & Leadership Programme. As LYG33 members, we are a group of young people from diverse backgrounds, who help to shape the future of LYG and sport in the UK. 

WHY HAVE WE SET UP THIS INITIATIVE? 

Our personal experiences, along with numerous high-profile studies, have shown that young people from lower socio-economic backgrounds take part in significantly lower levels of sport than their peers and that the high cost of sports kit and equipment is a key factor discouraging this participation.

WHAT ACTIONS WILL THE INITIATIVE TAKE? 

Through the initiative we will provide subsidised sports training sessions, as well as sports equipment, clothing, and mentorship opportunities to young people from low socioeconomic backgrounds. We consider sport to have an incredible ability to develop young people’s potential, positively impact their education, and help to develop their skills, confidence, and relationships.  

WHO WILL RECEIVE THE DONATIONS? 

We are delighted to have partnered with Hackney Foodbank and will use the proceeds from this round of fundraising to purchase items for the 70-100 children from low socio-economic backgrounds who attend their lunch club and subsidise children who would like to participate in sports training but lack the necessary funds. In the future, we hope to expand this initiative throughout the UK to ensure that every young person can access sporting opportunities.

ARE YOU ABLE TO PARTNER WITH EXTERNAL ORGANISATIONS OR ACCEPT CORPORATE SPONSORSHIP?

Yes, we are keen to partner with organisations who would like to support the campaign and are able to offer generous benefits packages to corporate sponsors, which can include the opportunity to run advertising stands at our events, some of which are attended by over 10,000 people.
