70th anniversary of the Lake Wake Walk for the MS Society · 4 May 2025

Over 150,000 of us in the UK have MS. It’s unpredictable and different for everyone. But it doesn’t have to be this way. We’re the MS Society. We understand what life’s like with MS. We're here for you through the highs, lows and everything in between. Together, we are strong enough to stop MS.

Story

2025 marks 70 years since 13 brave Yorkshire souls successfully crossed the finish line of the Lyke Wake Walk - a mammoth 39 mile trek across the North York Moors.

On Sunday 4 May, a new generation of mountaineers with a connection to one of the Walk's pioneers - Malcolm Walker - will take on the challenge in aid of the brilliant MS Society.

Three generations of Malcolm's family will lead a brave group of walkers across the Moors, aiming to cross the finish line within 24 hours.

At the young age of 88, Malcolm will also be joining them for the last section of the walk he first did back in 1955!

Malcolm remains the fastest runner in his age category of the York Parkrun, so will no doubt find the challenge a doddle, the younger folks on the other hand are feeling vastly unprepared.

We would really appreciate any donations you are able to give to the MS Society - a charity close to all of our hearts, and help us to raise crucial funds for the important support they provide to people living with MS and their vital research into tackling this dreadful disease.

Thank you!
