Story

I’M GOING FOR ANOTHER WALK….

In June 2020 Robert and I walked from our home in Port St Mary to Maughold Lighthouse. The 54.4 kilometer route incorporated South Barrule, Snaefell and North Barrule, and we named it Lynda’s Way…

We walked Lynda’s Way for Cruse in memory of my beautiful mum ✨Lynda Jackson✨ who passed away on 13 January 2018; 10 days after she was diagnosed with lung cancer.

Last year we decided that to mark five years since we lost my mum, and to celebrate FIVE years of sobriety for Rob, we would walk LYNDA’S WAY FOR MOTIV8 on Saturday the 20th of May!

But some folks will do just about anything to get out of going for a walk…and sadly Rob will not be able to walk with me again this year! Fortunately, we had already recruited Joanne.. and Mark from Motiv8 signed up soon after to walk with us!

My lovely friend Jo walked with us from Snaefell in 2020 and was instrumental in getting Robert down off North Barrule in one piece!!

Why are we walking for Motiv8….

On Monday 4th June 2018, desperate, after being turned down by the drug and alcohol team, and his GP when he called to ask for help, Rob phoned Motiv8.

Rob spoke to a wonderful lady called Josie. They chatted on the phone for a little while, and she arranged to see him the very next day. It is almost five years since that day and Motiv8 were the only organisation willing to answer Rob’s call for help. While Motiv8 were instrumental in getting him safely from that day to this day, I can assure you that the journey has not always been an easy one. The aftermath of drug addiction recovery can be difficult in ways that you can’t comprehend in the initial terrifying days and weeks; and after helping Rob on the initial road to recovery, Motiv8 were crucial in offering him additional life changing support.

On the 15th of November last year I had the privilege of watching Rob receive his Level 2 Award in Peer Mentoring !! Robert is now a fully-fledged member of the Motiv8 team and I am SO proud of him!
