Marie Curie provides care and support for people living with any terminal illness across the UK. Our nurses work night and day in people’s homes and our hospices offer specialist care. We also support people emotionally, provide practical information, and match them with trained volunteers.

Story

The Edinburgh Kiltwalk (Wee Wander) is an opportunity for me and some of my family members to come together to raise funds for a charity which has provided care for loved ones.

In February of 2021 we got the sad news that my Granny Bonnyrigg was terminally ill with cancer. Due to the restrictions imposed due to Covid-19 at the time if she had to stay in hospital as a family we most likely would have been unable to spend anytime together over her last few weeks. Thankfully with help from Marie Curie my Granny was able to return to her home to receive end of life care. The resources Marie Curie provided at this time to me and my family in order to provide her care was invaluable.

In August of 2022 my Grandad Gibson began his stay in our local Marie Curie hospice where he received such special care. Over his last weeks with us the hospice provided a space where we as a family could come together. The care and support this hospice and its staff provided will always hold a special place for me.
