Story

Hi everyone, and welcome to my JustGiving page!

This July, I’ll be taking on an abseil challenge to raise money for the Luton & Dunstable Hospital’s Theatre Appeal. I’ll be abseiling off their brand new Acute Services Block, which will house state-of-the-art operating theatres, as well as maternity and intensive care units.

This hospital is incredibly close to my heart — not only is it where I was born, but it’s also where my life was saved in 2023.

In July 2023, I underwent three major surgeries at Luton & Dunstable Hospital after being diagnosed with cancer. Thanks to the expertise and care of the amazing surgical team, the cancer was successfully removed. These surgeries required a stay in Intensive Care, and I will forever be grateful for the incredible staff who supported me through that time.

In September 2024, I had further surgery to treat dysplasia (abnormal cells that can develop into cancer). During that procedure, my consultant also biopsied an area near my tonsil — which turned out to contain a small, early-stage cancer. Without this timely intervention, the diagnosis could have come much later, with very different results.

In May 2025, I received the incredible news that I was cancer-free following a PET scan. However, a new biopsy showed the dysplasia had returned. Within just two weeks, my consultant performed laser surgery to remove it. This time, the procedure required an awake intubation, which I had been terrified of due to a difficult past experience. But the anaesthetist was outstanding — his skill and kindness turned something scary into something manageable. We spoke afterwards about the amazing work the theatre teams do every day, and how much they rely on the right equipment and facilities.

Inspired by these experiences, in October 2024, I began studying at university to become an Operating Department Practitioner (ODP). I've now seen firsthand how crucial the theatre team is — from anaesthetists to surgeons to ODPs — and how they work together to save lives, often behind the scenes.

This fundraiser is my way of giving back — to say thank you to my consultant, the anaesthetists, the ODPs, and every single member of the theatre team who made my surgeries possible. Their care, dedication, and expertise have given me a second chance — and I want to help support the future of their work.

Please consider donating to the Theatre Appeal and supporting the team that makes life-changing — and life-saving — surgery possible.

Thank you so much for your support 💜
