Story
Hi! My name is Lynz and I am one of four Scout Volunteers taking 36 young people from Gloucestershire to the 26th World Scout Jamboree in Poland in 2027.
A Jamboree is a global gathering of like-minded young people who want to change the world for the better. It's a festival of international friendship and can be a life changing experience for adults and young people alike.
To enable us to attend, each person must fundraise £3500. So, In October 2026, I will be completing a sponsored walk (with my oh so supportive husband). We will be starting at the Coventry Canal Basin, following the Coventry Canal, picking up the Oxford Canal and walking the towpath all the way down to Oxford - a total of approximately 85 miles which we will complete over 5 days.
So, why have I chosen this particular walk? Because my ancestors were canal people who moved coal up and down the canals between London and Coventry. My Grandmother was born on a canal boat in Coventry and other family members progressed to living on Fisher Row in Oxford, where I will finish my walk.
To be able to link a future experience to my ancestors will make this a very special journey.
