We are helping our friend Olly Brown with his amazing Marathons for Miracles challenge, where he is running 39 Marathons in 39 weeks across England raising money for Tommy’s, the pregnancy and baby loss charity. Luckily, we only have to run the Northamptonshire leg, and will be starting at Daventry Parkrun on 14 February 2026, and finishing in Byfield.

Tommy’s work on baby loss is well-known, and the key driver behind this challenge, but our story and reason for running is slightly different. Tommy’s also fund and pioneer research into pre-term birth and its causes, including pre-eclampsia, which I had in our first pregnancy, and which resulted in Jago being born at 29 weeks gestation. Very tangibly, in the last two years Tommy’s have completed research which has resulted in a blood test which can indicate risk of pre-eclampsia at 12 weeks. This is currently being trialled at Oxford, and having had it in our second pregnancy, we are on a very different care pathway to last time, which will hopefully result in a better-cooked baby!

As my wife and I embarked on our pregnancy journey in 2022, we were blissfully unaware of the very real possibility of miscarriage. Until, in late August, the unthinkable happened. Since then, we have seen and heard of those who have had similar, devastating experiences.

This is an issue which is so common, and yet so rarely spoken about... until it's too late.

So, I plan to do something about it. I will be running 39 marathons over 39 consecutive weeks, throughout 2026. I will run in each of the 39 historic counties of England, joined each week be a member of the Marathons for Miracles team. This is made up of 39 inspiring families who are motivated by their own experiences to run for this great cause.

Alongside the running, we will be sharing the stories of the people who join us, raising awareness and lifting the taboo around all things miscarriage, baby loss and infertility.
