Story

An Evening of Laughter and Fundraising. A Lifeline for Those Who Need It Most.

Cancer touches us all. A parent. A partner. A friend. A colleague. It arrives uninvited and changes everything. In our case it is personal, as our dear friend Paul Fisher has sadly been diagnosed with terminal cancer. At this heartbreaking time, he hopes that we can all support those who provide such a needed service.

In those hardest moments when families feel overwhelmed, frightened, and unsure of what comes next, the extraordinary team at Macmillan Cancer Support is there. With compassion, dignity and unwavering care.

While we aim to support a charity for everyone facing a cancer diagnosis, this drive is deeply personal for our branch. Paul who is one of our own, a dedicated member of the Tameside NARPO family (National Association of Retired Police Officers), is currently facing the reality of inoperable cancer. As a former officer, he spent a career looking after the public. Now, as he navigates this incredibly difficult chapter, organisations like Macmillan are providing the specialised care, emotional strength, and dignity that every person deserves.

They stand beside local families at the most vulnerable time of their lives, offering comfort, specialist support, and a place where no one has to face the journey alone. But this vital care depends on the generosity of people like us. To help keep this service going, Paul has wanted to give back to Macmillan Cancer Support, through arranging this charity fundraising.

This April, Tameside Branch of NARPO is proud to support Macmillan Cancer Support (Registered charity No. 261017). By hosting a special comedy charity evening for our branch members, a night filled with laughter, community spirit, and hope. Alongside the event, we are also raising funds through JustGiving to reach as many generous supporters as possible.

Because even in the darkest times, laughter brings light. And together, we can ensure Macmillan continues to be there for every family who needs them.

We want to ensure these services remain available for our colleague, their family, and the countless others facing similar battles. We believe that even in the face of hardship, there is room for community spirit and a bit of levity.

Your donations are going to be invaluable to their charity, which cannot exist without those donations from you. Whether as Tameside NARPO members or you are simply moved to support the cause and donate, every penny counts, focusing on charities serving our community and making a tangible impact.

If you can donate, or simply share our fundraiser, you will be helping provide comfort, care, and dignity when it matters most.

No amount is too small to help us reach our goal and support not only our friend and colleague during this time, but the many others who find themselves in these difficult and emotional times.

'Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it is about learning to dance (or laugh) in the rain'.

Thank you for your generosity, your empathy, and for standing with Tameside NARPO and Macmillan Cancer Support, who help many people suffering from cancer through their charity and service.

Thank you, we all send you our appreciation for your kindness and support.
