In April 2018, my life changed forever. I suffered a brain haemorrhage that left me completely paralysed and was placed in an induced coma for 5 days. When I woke up, I had to relearn everything- how to walk, talk and even eat again. On top of this I lost my sense of self and identity. The journey to rebuild this was just as tough as the physical recovery.

Thanks to the incredible support of the medical team at Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham, I slowly began to piece myself back together. It was a long and difficult process but with 12 weeks of hospital care and intensive rehabilitation I rediscovered both my strength and who I was. But my recovery didn’t stop there. For the next 3 years I was still returning to QMC for scans and further procedures alongside visiting all the staff. Now, I continue to live with ongoing cognitive difficulties that affect my daily life. Recovery isn’t finished for me, it’s still happening and is a massive part of who I am.

Towards the end of September I’ll be taking on a challenge of running the 95km distance from my home to QMC over seven days (13.5km every day). This is my way of showing just how far I’ve come and to say thank you to the team who not only saved my life but gave me the chance to live it fully again.

The staff at QMC gave me more than medical care- they gave me hope, strength and a second chance. By fundraising I want to give back to them and help ensure thousands of other patients like me can receive the same life- saving treatment and support.
