Story

Thank you for clicking through. Why did you? Curious about the Pachamama Alliance? Wondering what I am taking on?

The Pachamama Alliance offers programs and support that integrates indigenous wisdom, climate justice, protection of the Amazon and raising global consciousness. I'll be joining others on a 3 day (non stop!) ceremony in early July to raise our collective prayers for life and your donation sentiments will be remembered and much appreciated during this time.

If you want to know more....

Maybe you, like me, care deeply about this blue green planet we live on, and the diversity of life that it supports. You might already know then, that the greatest diversity of all is in the patch of land known as the Amazon rainforest. We are still discovering how important it is. And the people that I met there, showed me the possibility of a different and more easeful, profound way of being in the world.

The Pachamama Alliance is a charity that works with these tribes. It's a charity that has had a huge influence on my life. I first came across them almost 20 years ago and still today they continue to be influential across Europe, US and in South America. What I love about them is that they just quietly get on with what they do best with great integrity.

So what does the Pachamama Alliance do and how does their work affect us?

This charity's purpose is to enable everyone to enjoy sustainable, just and fulfilling lives. By learning from indigenous tribes they are finding that the Amazon can help us to address some of the biggest global problems we face. I worked with them for many years as a volunteer trainer, running courses in the UK on what sustainability means (before sustainability was a thing). It was through this that I ended up working as a consultant with organisations on culture, sustainability and human rights.

But tribes like the Achuar are facing huge deforestation and devastating pollution which threaten their survival. This charity is enabling tribes to find as many ways as they can to have a voice at the tables where decisions are made. Their work with the Achuar has led to the Ecuadorian Government to be the first country in the world to enshrine Rights to Nature in their constitution.

In early July I am undertaking a 72hour non-stop ceremony of prayers, fasting and movement. One of the tribe leaders I met in the Amazon is coming to the UK to co-lead alongside the school of movement medicine who say:

"The Summer Long Dance ceremony is a way to join in deep community to dance, sing, heal and pray together for all our relations. It is also a fundraiser for the Fundacion Pachamama (the Ecuadorian wing of the Pachamama Alliance) supporting them in their work for the game changing work to protect the forest and headwaters of the Amazon river, working with and being led by the vision of the indigenous peoples themselves."

So I am reaching out to ask for your support, in whatever way, this could be by committing to find out more about the Pachamama Alliance (link below), by taking some deep breaths for yourself taking in the oxygen provided by the plants and trees around you, taking some steps towards what makes your heart sing, or just by thinking of me making it through.

Obviously if you click to support financially that would be fantastic. If you prefer you can do so via paypal.me/paypalmadeleine (pls reference AMAZON)

For anyone in or near Frome on 29th June, I will be co-hosting a fundraiser for the Pachamama Alliance with food, film, talks and more. I hope to have some some amazing people join me who have more interesting tales to share about pilgrimage, community, climate justice and the Amazon. Get your ticket here https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/from-one-footprint-tickets-657597109657 and head down to the Station for around 6pm. It would be great to see you.
