MADMULE 'EVERESTING' fundraiser for Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance

Richard O'Connor is raising money for Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance

MADMULE 'EVERESTING' H.I.L.L CHALLENGE · 7 March 2026

Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance provides life-saving, pre-hospital critical care, to patients in need. We are your local air ambulance charity, a vital part of the community and we rely on your support. Together, with your support, we can be there for patients today, tomorrow and in the future.

Story

THE CHALLENGE - EVERESTING the OBELISK.

To Everest will be 51 miles, 8848m of climbing - and descending!

Approx 89 repeats of the Hill nr Ulwell, Swanage. Those who have followed my challenges will recall 2021 when I completed 15,000ft at the Obelisk in aid of Rod Thomson and Rod Rockin'. That was 26 miles.

Over the last 10 years of Madmule, I have managed to get round the whole of Dorset on the Hardy Way and ran countless races and training miles on the Jurassic coast. Thankfully, without ever calling for external emergency assistance.

All of the Madmule Trail runners have traipsed the county in races and training without calling for emergency assistance. Perhaps a few witnessing first hand a call out to assist a patient.

The plan is to never have to call. Having given it some thought, an unconscious comfort blanket is in place for those of us who head out on the trails at night. WHAT IF the body takes a funny turn? WHAT IF I overcooked the descent to Mupe Bay and took a tumble? We are fortunate to have a level of emergency services that DO allow us to take greater risk than that we may have chosen if those services were not in place.

There lies the decision in dedicating my next challenge to raise money for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.

''It provides life-saving, pre-hospital critical care, to patients in need. They are a vital part of the community across Dorset and Somerset and they rely on your support.''

The charity are currently on their way to raising 50% of the 1 million pounds they require to purchase a 2nd Helicopter.

I’m supporting DSAA as the service they provide is funded by charitable giving; by people like you. Last year, they were tasked to 2,954 incidents, with each mission costing approximately £3,500.

Please join me in helping to raise funds for this life-saving service. Together, with your support, they can be there for patients.

This one is for the hidden heroes.

The guys we never want to see. The guys we will be thankful to see if it hits the fan.
