I'm running the Edinburgh Half Marathon for Children's Holiday Venture, a student-run children's charity based in Edinburgh. We provide fortnightly activities, day trips and residential camps for children from socio-economically deprived backgrounds who are referred to us by social workers and their schools for experiences of bereavement, trauma, abuse, poor mental health or being a young carer. Our student volunteers commit themselves to our mission of improving the emotional wellbeing, confidence and social skills through building strong bonds with the children they care for every fortnight, fuelling their interests, helping children to take part in activities they look forward to, and supporting them to develop positive social connections and experiences. Our collaboration and strong partnerships with GPs, social workers, schools and organisations also are vital in contributing to the care of each child.

For the best part of my six years at university, I've had the most rewarding experience being a part of this incredible charity and have seen how the children grow in their confidence and engagement with activities. The fun and enjoyable activties we do, including food for the children and transport costs, all depend on our funds from grants and fundraising.
