Team: Maggie & Anna's fundraiser for language work in Côte d'Ivoire through Wycliffe Bible Translators

In memory of Tim Gaved

Christchurch Park Parkrun · 30 August 2025

Did you know that 1 in 5 people still don’t have the Bible in their language? Wycliffe Bible Translators serve local partners worldwide as they bring God’s word to their communities in the language which speaks to them best. Our vision is for a world where everyone can know Jesus through the Bible.

Story

As a linguistic consultant with SIL, Tim was passionate about the importance of good linguistic analysis for language development and Bible Translation. For the last five years of his life, he worked particularly with people from several language communities in Côte d'Ivoire to help them create effective writing systems and to produce clear translations of the Bible.

There are over 70 languages spoken in Côte d'Ivoire. For some of these languages, there has already been lots of linguistic analysis done, and a variety of literacy and Biblical resources produced. In others, there is still lots to do! We want to mark the first anniversary of Tim's death by raising money in his memory to help fund the essential linguistic work needed, including research on some of the less studied languages.

Tim was a regular parkrunner in Ipswich, so taking part in the Christchurch Park parkrun seemed to be a fitting tribute even though we are unlikely to equal his PB (personal best time)!
