AJ Bell Great Manchester Run 10K 2026 · 31 May 2026 · Start fundraising for this event

Our incredible supporters will take on the Great Manchester Run 10k raising funds for our MediCinema Appeal to bring the magic of the movies to patients in Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and Manchester Royal Infirmary.

Story

Hi, my name is Mahdi and I am a young person who has attended Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital (RMCH). I am fundraising for a MediCinema at the RMCH.

I have Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) alongside other health issues; I have on numerous occasions experienced long-term hospital admissions. These can be quite challenging and isolating.

Many patients at RMCH have complex health needs that require frequent or long hospital admissions.

Having a facility like MediCinema could make hospital life more normal. It will provide young people the chance to make special memories that can last a lifetime — and it’s something everyone can enjoy, whether they are able-bodied or not.

I will be participating in the Great Manchester Run 10K to raise funds for a MediCinema.

I am kindly asking you to consider donating to this charity, as it will help so many children and young people like me, and their families, who are living with chronic illnesses or complex health conditions.

Ayyub, Young Person 16 years old: “The Great Manchester Run gave me more than a medal, it gave me hope, strength and a reminder that even from a hospital bed I am still moving forward.”

Georgina, Parent of Young Person who completed the run: “Being part of the GMR Youth Service Team really inspired Issie, the camaraderie and inclusive atmosphere was addictive and the day was so much fun, her walking over the line with Molly and Abby made me so proud and gave her bragging rights for months to come.”

This year we are raising money in support of MFT Charity's Medicinema Appeal!

Every year, many thousands of patients are admitted to our Oxford Road Campus hospitals. For many, long or repeated hospital stays can lead to feelings of isolation, stress and worry – not only for our patients but also for their loved ones.

We want to change that by creating a purpose-built MediCinema inside Manchester Royal Infirmary, at no cost to the NHS. Delivered in partnership with BAFTA Award-winning charity MediCinema, this fully accessible, 50-seat cinema will support patients from across Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, Saint Mary’s Hospital and Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, as well as Manchester Royal Infirmary itself.

With room for wheelchairs, hospital beds, and medical equipment, and supported by dedicated MediCinema nurses and trained volunteers, it will offer 260 screenings a year of the latest releases alongside much loved film favourites.

“Having a cinema in hospital would make a huge difference. It would give kids and teenagers the chance to watch their favourite films and make memories even when they can’t go out. It’s little things like that which really lift your spirits and make long stays easier, especially being able to socialise with patients of a similar age.”

By supporting projects that go above and beyond core NHS provision, the charity helps make a real and lasting difference to the lives of the people it cares for - ensuring patients of all ages receive the very best treatment in the very best facilities.
