Story

We’re running for Jack!

In December 2023, Jack had a 3 monthly kidney ultrasound which was followed by results being Bilateral Wilms Tumour (kidney cancer). Jack was immediately admitted into GOSH children’s cancer ward for weekly chemotherapy. After 10 rounds of chemotherapy, Jack went on to have life saving surgery and have his right kidney and 30% of his left kidney removed. Thankfully, 3 weeks after this, Jack was finally cancer free.

As you can imagine this is every families worst nightmare. But Young Lives v Cancer helped in so many ways and made an unbareable time easier for Becky, Trav, Lilly and Jack providing help with paperwork, support and most importantly, accommodation for them to be close to Jack.

If Jack can go through all of this before he was 1, then surely I can run a half marathon? (I’ve never run before…)

When a child is diagnosed with cancer life becomes full of fear, for them and their family. Fear of treatment, but also of families being torn apart, overwhelming money worries, of having nowhere to turn, no one to talk to.

At Young Lives vs Cancer, we help families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. But every day 12 more children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer. We’ll face it all together – but we can’t do it without you.
