Sonia Bullough - Service of Thanksgiving

Thanks for taking the time to visit this JustGiving page to collect charitable donations for the Malawi Mobile Clinics - a cause dear to Sonia. This page has been set up via the St Guthlac's PCC, part of the Diocese of Leicester. Members of St Guthlac's have been pleased to support the Malawi Mobile Clinics over several years, recognising the very valuable work that they do.

Malawi Mobile Clinics Appeal

UK support for mobile clinics is administered by Bishop Christopher Boyle, who served as Bishop of Northern Malawi from 2001 for 8 years. Since his return to this country, Bishop Christopher has continued to support vital rural healthcare clinics in his former diocese.

The mobile clinics make monthly visits during the dry season to remote, rural areas of Northern Malawi. Last year:

- 10 visits were made during the 5 months of the dry season, 450-500 patients seen each month, a growing number

- a wide range and numerous medical conditions treated (respiratory diseases, asthma, chest infection and cancers; skin conditions such as scabies, fungal infections and eczema)

- food supplements are given to the most vulnerable to help combat the silent killer of malnutrition: pregnant women and under 5s.

- 114 cases of nutritional concern were recorded.

- a partnership forged between the mobile clinic and Mzuzu Rotary and Eyesight Universal has brought eyecare and glasses to the villagers.

- the mobile clinics participate in the Polio Prevention Campaign; and they are registered with the Medical Council of Malawi.
